Uganda participated in the inaugural Meeting of the East African Community (EAC) Sectoral Council Responsible for Social Affairs, held from 2 to 7 July 2026 in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, marking a significant milestone in advancing the region's social development agenda.

The Ugandan delegation was led by the Rt. Hon. First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs and comprised two Ministers, two Ambassadors, five Permanent Secretaries and Heads of Institutions, together with 24 senior technical officers drawn from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies.

The meeting successfully adopted five key regional policy instruments that will guide cooperation among EAC Partner States. These include the EAC Strategic Plan for the Social Affairs Sector, aligned to the Seventh EAC Development Strategy, the EAC Social Protection Policy, the Reviewed EAC Youth Policy 2026, the EAC Guidelines for Early Childhood Development, and the EAC Model Competency Standards for Domestic Workers.

The adoption of these instruments reflects the Community's commitment to strengthening social protection, promoting youth development, enhancing early childhood care, improving labour standards, and fostering inclusive socio-economic development across the region.

The Ministry of East African Community Affairs commends all the participating Ministries, Departments, and Agencies whose collaboration and technical expertise contributed to the successful inaugural Sectoral Council, reaffirming Uganda's commitment to implementing regional policies that improve the lives of East African citizens.
