The First Deputy Prime Minister and minister of East African community Affairs in Uganda Rt.Hon. Dr. Alitwala Rebecca Kadaga –MP participated at the closing ceremony of the 5th edition of the water week at ministry of Water and Environment, luzira road.

Present to receive 1st DPM was the state Minister of Environment Hon Anywar Beatrice.

The closure of the water week had quit a number of activities to mention a few, a panel of discussants on water and environment, giving out of awards to best performers and an exhibition just to mention a few.

While addressing participants, The Firs Deputy Prime Minister said “safe drinking water and adequate sanitation and hygiene are pillars of human health and well-being.”

She however said that the loss of forests and wetlands through massive use of biomass fuel for cooking/combustion combined with other drivers which include but not limited to expansion of agricultural land, rapid urbanization, which have put a lot of pressure on water and environment resources.

The Woman member of parliament for Kamuli district was awarded with a plaque of appreciation for her efforts towards environment conservation and the State Minister of Environment Hon. Anywar Beatrice had the honour to present it to her.

RT.Hon. Dr. Alitwala Rebecca Kadaga also awarded best performing groups of students from different school debate clubs, best performing employees of Ministry of Water and Environment.
