Ensure Free Education for All- Museveni

President Yoweri Museveni officiated at the International Women’s Day in Katakwi district, in Boma grounds that was filled by people from near and far. On his arrival, the President who looked relaxed and energetic was clad in white and black attire and was received by the Vice President rtd Major Jessica Alupo, and other government officials. After having inspected the parade comprised of armed forces, speeches were followed by an entertainment interlude from Teso cultural groups. While addressing the congregation, he said that Uganda is one of the few countries that has embraced women in leadership positions. Museveni however said that once families develop, even the issue of women’s emancipation will not be there adding that women’s emancipation must be organic not through legislation. The President urged leaders to work towards transforming the lives of Ugandans and further advised the women’s movement to ensure free education for all to set the girl child free from any impediments. On the other hand, President Museveni assured the people of Teso that the government was going to expand the fruit factory such that it could buy all their citrus. This year’s International Women’s Day was under the theme: “Accelerating Gender Equality Through Women’s Economic Empowerment”

 The Ministry of East African Community Affairs Uganda was well represented with the presence of the 1DPM/Minister for EAC Uganda, Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga (MP) and the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Mrs Mwanje Edith.
