EALA Passes The EAC Appropriation Bill 2024

This afternoon, the East African Legislative Assembly in a sitting at the EAC headquarters in Arusha, adopted the committee’s report on general purpose on the EAC budget estimates for revenue expenditure for the financial year 2024/25. The committee recommended that the Assembly Urge the Council to approve EALA’s request for USD 810,000 for public outreach and sensitization to enhance the visibility of the Community. The committee further suggested that this type of funding be accommodated in the supplementary budget for FY 2024/25.

As per the committee report, the Budget for the Financial Year 2021/25 was prepared in line with the Global/Sector specific priority areas and targets agreed upon by the Pre-Budget Conference held from 23rd-24th October 2023 and adopted by the 53rd Extra Ordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers as well as directives and decisions of the Council Summit.

In FY 2024/25, the Community will focus on the following key priority areas:

  1. Strengthening of regional peace, security, political, and governance mechanisms to maintain stability in the community
  2. Enhancement of intra-regional trade and investment through an enhancing business environment
  3. Enhancement of the social and productive sectors to increase productivity and raise the standards of living for East Africans… among others.

The Assembly adopted the Committee report and passed the EAC Appropriation Bill 2024 to provide for a total sum of USD 114,425,842.
