Uganda Celebrates 25 years of East African Community at Hotel Africana in Kampala.

In a grand celebration held today that was flagged off by the State Minister of the Ministry of EAC Uganda Hon. Ikuya Magode, the Uganda Prisons band led the Ministry of EAC Uganda staff, stakeholders, and students that joined the walk from Constitutional Square to Hotel Africana in Kampala where the main celebrations were to take place, Uganda joined the East African Community (EAC) member states in marking the 25 years of the East African Community. The event, which commemorates the 25th anniversary of the EAC, brought together government officials, business leaders, and citizens from across the country.

The atmosphere was vibrant with cultural performances showcasing the rich diversity of East Africa. Traditional music, dance, and art were on full display, highlighting the unity and shared heritage of the EAC nations. While addressing the participants, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of EAC Affairs Uganda, Mrs Edith Mwanje assured the participants that the EAC provides several business opportunities that require them to increase production and innovation to be able to meet the regional market demands and the Eight (8) Partner States are committed to the EAC regional integration initiatives. Mwanje also reminded the business community that attended the celebrations that the key component of the integration agenda is doing business together as a Community, expanding the market beyond East Africa, and removing barriers to trade for wider business and employment opportunities.
Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, Uganda’s Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs, delivered a keynote address, reflecting on the milestones achieved by the EAC over the past 25 years. She emphasized the importance of regional integration and cooperation in fostering economic growth, stability, and development.
Kadaga also addressed the challenges facing the EAC, calling for greater commitment from member states to accelerate the implementation of key projects, such as the East African Monetary Union and infrastructure development initiatives.

As the day progressed, attendees enjoyed a sumptuous feast featuring cultural dance troops, Uganda Prisons band music culinary delights from various Uganda cuisines. The celebration concluded with a spectacular cutting of the cake designed with EAC colors, symbolizing hope and optimism for the future of the EAC.
Participants left the event inspired and motivated to continue building on the strong foundation of unity and collaboration that the East African Community represents. The celebration at Hotel Africana was a reflection on the past and a forward-looking affirmation of the shared vision and goals that bind the EAC member states together.
